Curly Holiday Hairstyles

Happy Holidaaaaaaaaaaaays. Happy Holidaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaays.

Do you hear Bing Crosby in your head yet?

Yes, I am the person blasting holiday music at Deva HQ. I am getting it stuck in everyone’s head, including yours, and do you want to know why?!

It’s the most wonderful time of the yeeeear!

You know it’s true.

And to celebrate, Deva released three limited edition kits – one for wavy mavens, one for curly peeps, and one for super curly girls. Each one has a very shiny scarf, and if you ever saw it you would even say it glows (okay, I’m done…maybe).

And now, we’re going to show you how to use each kit and how to rock the scarf. We’re going to frolic and play, the DevaCurl Way, stylin’ you for a winter wonderlaaaaaaaand.

The Celebrate Super Curly Holiday Kit

What’s inside: Full size No-Poo Decadence, full size One Condition Decadence, a 3 oz. SuperCream, and the DevaScarf

How do you use it?

I’m so glad you asked. Ronnie, who as you can tell, has fabulous hair, and who’s a part of the Deva Education team, is here to share her curly secrets.

Step 1:  Put on Jingle Bell Rock (okay, maybe that came from me and not Ronnie).

Step 2: Start with No-Poo Decadence. “I use a lot, and I work it through to my ends to help cleanse product build up.” As you rinse, be sure to keep scrubbing, massaging the scalp as you rinse.

Step 3: Take a quarter size amount of One Condition Decadence and emulsify it in your hands. “I use just enough to detangle my hair, and I don’t rinse any of it out.”

Step 4: “When it’s time to style I usually have to re-wet my hair because as soon as I get out of the shower my hair starts to suck up the moisture,” so she keeps a small spray bottle of water handy. “I divide my hair into six small sections and work SuperCream through each one, raking it through with my fingers. Then I smooth the product in to seal the cuticle.” Once Ronnie’s done applying product she shakes her hair to remove excess water, and then she sits under a hooded dryer. And then it’s a bright time, it’s the right time, to rock your curls all day.

How she rocks the DevaScarf:

  1. Start by folding the scarf as seen here.
  2. Then place the center of the scarf at the base of your neck.
  3. Wrap the left side over and across your forehead tucking to secure. Repeat the same with the right hand side.

The Celebrate Curly Holiday Kit

What’s inside: Full size No-Poo Original, full size One Condition Original, a 3 oz. Styling Cream, and the DevaScarf

How do you use it?

Ask Ms. Bonnie aka The Curly Bee. Yes, she looks like Curly Edgy. No they are not related. They just maybe, sort of, have the same hair and love One Condition.

Step 1: “I soak my hair, sectioning it into four parts. Then I start to apply No-Poo Original at the roots, massaging super gently.” The massaging motion is really what helps clean the scalp—friction is key! “I barely use any product, probably about three dime sizes total.” Be sure to rinse the product out thoroughly and scrub as you rinse.

Step 2: “I apply One Condition Original to each section, beginning at the ends, I work my way up to the scalp, detangling gently with my fingers.” If you want your hair to be super light and voluminous, don’t apply any conditioner to your roots. “I let it sit before rinsing it all, then I apply a little more as a leave-in.”

Step 3: “I use Styling Cream to define my curls. I create the shape that I want my hair to set into, then I scrunch the cream lightly onto my ends. I never apply it to my roots because I don’t want to weigh my hair down.” For any frizzy spots, you can wrap strands around your finger to individually define them (this technique is called finger coiling). Finish by diffusing or air drying.

How she rocks the DevaScarf:

  1. First, recognize that there’s some Deva Magic, in that silk scarf you’ve found and once you place it on your curls, you’ll begin to dance around.
  2. Then fold one corner of the scarf over so you have a small triangle, flipping your head over sit the base of the triangle at the nape of your neck.
  3. Wrap the scarf around all of your curls, leaving your bangs out. Cross the left side over the right, then bring the corners to the back of your head, twisting the sides and tucking them in to secure.
  4. Take the top, remaining corner, bring it down to seal in your curls, and tuck to secure. Fluff your bangs and voila!

The Celebrate Wavy Holiday Kit

What’s inside: Full size Low-Poo Delight, full size One Condition Delight, a 3 oz. Wave Maker, and the DevaScarf

How do you use it?

Take inspiration from Michelle, whose hair is the definition of bombshell waves. And even when the weather outside is frightful, Michelle’s waves are still delightful (and no, there’s no sign of these puns stopping).

Step 1:  “I only wash my hair once a week, because it tends to get greasy. I cleanse with Low-Poo Delight and scrub my scalp really hard. As I rinse it, I continue to scrub my scalp and run the product through the ends of my hair, and I actually do this process twice.”

Step 2: “I follow up with One Condition Delight to help detangle. I start at the bottom and work my way up, detangling with my fingers. I leave it in for two to three minutes and then rinse it out.”

Step 3: “After that I use the DevaTowel to ring out my hair and then I flip my hair to the side and start applying Wave Maker from the bottom up. Then I scrunch up with the towel to define my waves even more.”

How she rocks the DevaScarf:

Step 1: Fold the scarf until it’s about two inches thick. Then place the scarf at the back of your head, bring the ends to the front, and tie once at the top of your head.

Step 2: Loop the ends of the scarf around to the back of your head and tie a knot to secure.
